After two wet events in a row in the 2024 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship Series, the riders will return to dry land on Saturday. This Saturday, the series will return to Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, for round 4. The Anaheim 2 race is a part of the Triple Crown round, so one terrible performance out of three races might destroy your night.
Plessinger also took home a win, being the only driver to finish in the top five in all three rounds and one of only two drivers who did not compete in the main event this year, the other being Dylan Ferrandis. I was not compelled enough to select Plessinger for the podium on the dry track.
Tomac and Webb won two times when they were playing in the 250SX class. Shane McElrath, Justin Hill, Dylan Ferrandis, and Christian Craig have won the 250SX and 450SX races. This means that eight riders have occupied the top spot on the A2 podium.
The final 2023 Triple Crown event took place at Glendale's Round 12, where Tomac finished 1-2-1 and won the first game of the series. Three A2 450SX victories in the previous five years demonstrate Tomac's mastery of the format and his ability to succeed on Anaheim dirt.
Since his debut win at A1, he has failed to secure a spot on the podium. Last week in San Diego, his heated outburst towards Jason Anderson only harmed his public image, a crucial aspect for a rider famously nicknamed The Justin Bieber of Motocross by ESPN. Lawrence is fast and has more than enough reason to add his name to the list of A2 winners. He can beat Tomac, but Lawrence has to fight three races to do that.
Webb could podium or win, for sure. But in three rounds, he has only finished in the top five once (a P2 last week). Before giving it to Webb, allow him to achieve a higher position on the charts.
